About us
P.F. Mc Carthys has been in existence in Kenmare since, well forever really. For years it has provided a place of rest, relaxation and entertainment to its visitors. It was originally the Failte Bar, run by the Mc Carthy family, passed down through the generations until in the year 2000 when it was taken over by Flor and Maureen Mc Carthy’s daughter, Margaret. She renovated the bar into its present incarnation and renamed it P.F. McCarthys.
She ran it successfully for three years building up a thriving food and drink business. In 2005 the mantle was passed on to Paul and Breda Walsh. Paul and Breda have both lived and worked in Kenmare since mid 1990’s garnering experience in many establishments in the town, namely the Park Hotel, Kenmare Bay Hotel and the Horseshoe Bar and Restaurant. Paul is a qualified hotel manager and has many years experience in this field of work. Breda trained and qualified as a chef and has worked in many top establishments both at home and abroad. Having travelled and worked abroad together Paul and Breda came back to kenmare in 2000 and decided to set down roots there.
Once they took over Mc Carthys in 2006 they endeavoured to maintain the high standards set by their predecessors whilst adding their own touch and personality to the business. They extended the menu and food serving times to appeal to a wider range of people, focussing on sourcing their produce locally as much as possible using local food producers.
P. F. Mc Carthy’s continues to be a place of great laughter, top-class music, local talent, good food and fantastic service, attracting a friendly and cosmopolitan clientele. The pub sees a fusion of years gone by blending seamlessly with a new generation, where anyone is welcome to come and sit and enjoy a warming latté or cappuccino, a good old fashioned pint of Guinness, a selected imported brew or maybe a bit of home-baking and a game of backgammon or scrabble.
